That question changed everything. In March 2008, when the owner asked me to design, build, and operate a liquid asphalt terminal by December 1st - having never done any of those things before - I thought he'd lost his mind. But I said "Yes sir."
What followed was an impossible 8-month sprint. We engineered everything in-house, submitted a perfect Land Disturbance Permit (no time for iterations), and received approval in just 8 days - one of which was a holiday. We broke ground immediately.
On December 2, 2008, Norfolk-Southern delivered our first railcars to the Rockmart, Georgia terminal. I was ready December 1st - they weren't. The tank wasn't even insulated yet, but that asphalt went in before year-end, just as the boss demanded.
